CBD shelves can be confusing. Two products can both say "CBD" on the front and still be very different inside. This guide explains the main types of CBD, how to read a label, and what the federal hemp change on December 11, 2026 means for what we can sell. It is general information only. We do not make health claims about CBD, and nothing here is medical advice.
What is CBD?
CBD, short for cannabidiol, is one of many natural compounds found in the hemp plant. It is not the same as THC. Hemp-derived CBD products come in many forms, and they are made in different ways that decide what else ends up in the bottle.
The three types of CBD
- CBD isolate: CBD on its own, with the other plant compounds removed. Isolate products are THC-free.
- Broad spectrum: contains CBD plus other hemp compounds, such as CBG or CBN, with the THC removed. Broad spectrum products are made to be THC-free.
- Full spectrum: contains CBD plus the plant's other compounds, including a small amount of THC.
If you want to avoid THC completely, look for products labeled THC-free, isolate or broad spectrum, and check the lab report. Many "CBD" gummies and edibles also contain added Delta-9 THC, often shown as a ratio such as 1:1 or 2:1 on the front of the pack. Those are THC products, not THC-free CBD.
Reading a CBD label
- Total CBD: the milligrams of CBD in the whole package.
- Per serving: how much CBD is in one gummy, dropper or dose.
- Type: isolate, broad spectrum or full spectrum.
- THC content: whether the product contains any THC, and how much.
- Lab report (COA): a certificate of analysis from a third-party lab, usually linked with a QR code or batch number.
Ask our team to pull up the lab report for any product before you buy.
The December 11, 2026 federal change
A federal law signed in November 2025 changes how "hemp" is defined. Starting December 11, 2026, finished hemp products with more than 0.4 milligrams of total THC per container will no longer be treated as hemp under federal law, and all forms of THC count toward that total. That affects most full spectrum products and anything with added THC. Lab-made cannabinoids lose hemp status earlier, from November 12, 2026.
THC-free CBD is not affected by this change. Any product that no longer qualifies as hemp will come off our shelves and off this website by the date it changes. For the full details and sources, read our federal hemp law changes page.
